North Bohemia as a Low-Resource Visual Context: Everyday Heritage, Uneven Visibility, and Synthetic Aesthetics

Generative AI images are not neutral representations of place. They reconstruct regions through uneven training data, model priors and globally circulating visual conventions. Focusing on North Bohemia in the Czech Republic, the article compares outputs generated by four models and examines how local environments are transformed through processes of vernacular loss, infrastructural “cleaning” and stylistic homogenisation. The study asks what happens to everyday cultural heritage when locally specific visual memory is translated into globally legible synthetic imagery.

Gardening of Soul: Conclusion, pp. 376–383. Published in 2025
Dissemination is a collaborative site-specific work by Jiří Philippe Janda and Václav Mach, originally installed in front of the House of Arts in Ústí nad Labem.
The circular sculptural object gradually became a social structure and meeting point. Activated through a shared grilling event, the work explored how an artwork can move beyond autonomous form and enter everyday institutional life as temporary social infrastructure.
The work is documented in Gardening of Soul: Conclusion, a collective monograph edited by Michal Koleček and published by the Faculty of Art and Design at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in 2025. The publication reflects on gardening, care, place-making and community in the context of contemporary artistic practice.
